Orion Engineered Carbons has completed the upgrade of its air emissions control technology at its plant at Belpre in Ohio in the US. The upgrade means all of its US plants — including Borger and Orange in Texas and Ivanhoe in Louisiana — now comply with the latest EPA air quality initiatives.

Lego is to pilot its Replay brick take-back pro- gramme in the UK. Initially, returned ABS bricks will be recycled into items such as storage boxes. The Replay scheme has been operat- ing in North America since 2019 and has collected more than 230m bricks.

Petronas Chemicals is to construct what it says will be Asia’s largest advanced chemical recycling plant at Pengerang in Malaysia using technology provided by Plastic Energy. The 33,000 tonnes/yr facility is expected to be operation- al by the first half of 2026.

Coperion one-step route to recycled compounds
Coperion’s ZSK FilCo system is the company’s latest introduction for recycling of post-consumer recyclate (PCR) or other highly contaminated polymer feed- stock into performance compounds.
In the new system, melt
filtration and compounding is combined in a single production step. Waste plastic is fed into the ZSK twin screw extruder, where it is melted, homogenised and devolatilised, then fed through a filter to remove all contaminants before being reintroduced back into the same ZSK extruder to be compounded with reinforc- ing materials or fillers. Compared to the

Toray recycles its carbon fibre
Toray Industries has devel- oped a pyrolysis recycling process that is being used to recover its Toryca carbon fibre from Boeing 787 part production waste for reuse in thermoplastic compounds. The company says
recycled carbon fibre (rCF) obtained by the process has been used in Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 laptop, contributing to reduced carbon footprint. It said it is working with Lenovo on other
applications. According to Toray, a
key advantage of carbon fibre is is ability to retain its primary mechanical properties even after the recycling process. �

Avient sets up ColorWorks centre in Arizona
Avient is to open a ColorWorks Design & Technology Center at Phoenix in Arizona in the US. The new facility will be its second in the country and its fifth worldwide. ColorWorks Centers are intended to provide customers with colour
inspiration and technical guidance through a collaborative working approach. “With the addition of ColorWorks Phoenix, we can more readily
collaborate with our customers, especially those in the western part of the United States,” said Mayendran Pillay, Avient’s Marketing Director, Color & Additives for the US and Canada. �
