Carbios signs deal in China
French biochemistry company Carbios and Chinese PET and textile producer Zhink Group have signed a joint Letter of Intent to build a biorecy- cling plant in China using Carbios’ enzymatic depoly- merisation technology. The agreement propos-
es a partnership to build a plant with a minimum processing capacity of 50,000 tonnes/yr. China, which produces 67m tonnes of PET annually representing 61% of global production, is considered a key market for Carbios. “The technology developed by Carbios [is] capable of recycling all types of PET waste,” said Emmanuel Ladent, CEO, Carbios. He said it pro- motes a circular economy with high-quality products and significantly reduces the carbon footprint of industries. This Asia-based plant would follow on from the first industrial-scale enzymatic PET recycling plant which is currently under construction in Longlaville, France. �

New PLA venture starts in United Arab Emirates
SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment and Global Biopolymers Industries have joined forces to establish Emirates Biotech, a new venture designed to spear- head the production and marketing of PLA bio-based polymers in the Middle East, Africa, and India. The new company will commence commercial operations in early 2025, and intends to start construction of its first production plant in the UAE before 2026. Arkema grants licence for PEKK
Arkema has granted Seqens an Exclusive Technology Licence for the manufacture of polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) for use in long term implantable applications. PEKK is used in aerospace and other markets.
Seqens’ IMPEKK materi- als have been specifically developed for long term medical implantable applications and could represent an alternative to existing titanium and PEEK materials. IMPEKK materials
will be provided by Seqens through a global network of partners, including well- known manufacturers, 3D printing machine compa- nies, and distributors. �

Belgian materials company Syensqo has introduced five new high-perfor- mance Echo polyamide grades as part of the company’s growing Omnix Echo portfolio.
With a mass-balanced (MB) allo- cated recycled content between 33%

and 98% from post-consumer and/or post-industrial (PCR/PIR) sources, including fibres, the new grades offer reduced product carbon footprint potential whilst maintaining the same mechanical performance and superior flowability as virgin PA6 and PA66.
The new products are primarily
targeted at household appliances and consumer goods such as coffee makers, ovens, air fryers, kitchen robot chassis and kitchen utensils as well as razor brackets, said the company. �
