Successful delivery of the Boskalis Bokalift1 simulator


The former Dockwise heavy lifting vessel “Finesse” of the Boskalis fleet was converted into the heavy lift crane vessel “Bokalift1” last year. Therefore a 3000-tonne Huisman pedestal crane was installed on deck.


t the same time as the conversion of the Bokalift1, Boskalis awarded MARIN the contract for the design, development, installation and delivery of the Bokalift simulator. This simulator enables Boskalis to train the crew for offshore heavy lift operations and to verify the engineered operational procedures.

Four operator positions The simulator has four operator positions: the crane operator position, the bridge for the DP and ballast operator, the deck position for the Offshore Construction Manager (OCM)/ superintendent and the instructor position.

The crane operator (CO) position is the most impressive as it is a detailed replica of the real chair with all its crane controls, the eight monitors reflecting the outside world, the CCTV (cameras at Main and Auxiliary hoist), SCADA (crane information) and Anti Heeling System (AHS) information monitor. From his chair (inside the crane cabin) the CO has a good overview of the deck, payloads, the lifting operation and on the support tools inside the cabin.
