A world fi rst as the Adriatic LNG terminal is placed at fi nal destination

September 16 last year, marked an historic milestone when the first offshore, gravity-based structure in the world for the unloading, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was installed at its final location off Porto Levanto, Italy.

he Adriatic LNG terminal has a regasification capacity of 8 billion m3 a year that represents around 10%


of the installed regasification capacity in Europe. At 180 m long, 88 m wide and almost 50 m high, the Adriatic LNG terminal is also the largest concrete structure that has ever been built in a dry dock.


Upon completion, the structure was moved out of the dry dock in Algeciras, Spain on August 30, using a combination of shore mooring lines and seven tugs. After tow-out the structure was then towed by four
