Vos: “Perhaps, but in compost production you are reliant on the raw material at your disposal. For example, you can never have 100% control over the composition of horse feed. This is even more complex with organic compost. Or take oyster mushroom cultivation with MRL (Maximum Residue Limit) exceedances caused by crop protection products for example, that can lead to big problems. Having said that, we continually examine how and where we can apply data better. That is always improving. We maintain close contacts with our raw material suppliers. And, of course, the compost we deliver to customers is provided with clear data, also via our Grower Portal, that growers can benefit from.”


The sector and consumers Before joining CNC, Alex Vos worked for Banken Mushrooms so he is very well acquainted with the mushroom market. Together with Brilleman, he is moderately positive about the future of the Dutch sector. “The general situation is difficult, and the export position of our mushroom sector remains a challenge. But on the other hand, we shouldn’t talk each other into a negative spiral, there are still opportunities ahead for sector.” Both men see some positive signs when it comes to the flexibility of the sector. Vos: “That was visible during the Corona pandemic, for example. The trading channels initially panicked, and that crisis temporarily led to some restructuring, but you also saw that exotic mushrooms still found a way to the market in different ways.” Brilleman nods: “There are still some Dutch growers expanding their companies with a robust and resilient strategy. The retail sector is also devoting much more attention to cate- gory management, the range of mushrooms

More than 100 mushroom growers gathered on Thursday, October 30th, for CNC Grondstoffen’s customer relations day. The meeting, held in a positive, relaxed, and open atmosphere, focused entirely on collaboration, knowledge sharing, and future-oriented entrepreneurship

- core values that, within CNC, are encapsulated in the motto: “Growing together tastes better.” During his welcome address, CCO Vos emphasized the importance of connection within the supply chain. “The mushroom world is changing rapidly - from mechanical harvesting and sustainability to shifting markets and the growth of organic farming. These changes demand collaboration, flexibility, and vision. That’s precisely why it’s important that we continue to connect with each other and share what we learn.” He briefly touched on the recent fire at the Moerdijk production facility. “It was a bad moment, but also a confirmation of the depth of commitment within our sector. The willingness to contribute and help was enormous, and production was restarted within 72 hours. That speaks volumes about our collective strength.” After the opening, CEO Hildo Brilleman shared the company’s vision for the future. The follow-up program addressed themes that directly relate to growers’ practices. The highlight of the afternoon was the contribution of entrepreneur and media personality Annemarie van Gaal, who shared her vision on entrepreneurship in changing markets. The relationship day concluded with a networking reception.
