No pigs or cows needed


Lab-grown meat – this is what it looks like. Dr Petra Kluger, project manager at Reutlingen University of Applied Chemistry in Germany, peers at a piece of artificial meat that has been produced with a 3D printer. In an interview with German press agency DPA she said that there is still a long way to go before the product is really edible, adding: “Thanks to the re- search on the subject, side sausages or fillings for ravioli and dumplings with artificial meat will be conceivable in a few years.” On investigating ways to advance production to an in- dustrial scale, Dr Kluger is still hoping for more funds. “We are at the very beginning of a new technology that doesn’t want to destroy agriculture, but wants to offer a complementary alternative, because there are more and more people in the world.”
