The paddles in the front two rows form the plus pole and are situated some distance apart from one another to ensure greater efficacy. The last row serves as minus pole to complete the circuit.

ahead of the competitors that we will no doubt encounter.” Zasso has also been working on a model measuring 6 metres across or more, which will feature two paddle elements at the back and one on the front, similar to a triple mower. The most important thing, after all, is that the plants are not flattened first by the wheels. The housing at the rear will also be smaller. From now on, the high-voltage transformers will be placed at the front, in order to reduce the number of cables running alongside the tractor and to ensure greater ease of adjust- ment. This will leave only the generator at the back. At present, the driver is still required to control the voltage manually and read the amp level off analogue meters. Users have been promised that from next year, all set- tings will run via Isobus and be adjustable in a CNH terminal. In order to ensure the highest possible level of safety, the machine will feature up to 25 sen- sors. “These could include detectors that shut off the machine if someone comes within 3 metres, or ensure that it only works while the tractor is running,” states Matthias Eberius.

Considerable purchase price One machine measuring 1.20 metres wide costs € 140,000 in the AgXtend range, while a 3 me- tres wide version costs € 190,000. On top of this, a fee is paid for use per hectare. The idea is that this will be in proportion to the amount you spend on herbicides applied with a field sprayer.

“It’s a considerable expense, but there is a great deal to gain from it too,” claims Maarten De Smet, salesperson at CNH (AgXtend). CNH is considering making the machine available with a lease or rental tractor. In this case, a SIM card in the machine would be used to verify the hec- tares treated and for sharing of data.

The electricity flows from the leaf down to the roots via the path of least resistance: the fluid inside the plant. The fluid leaks out through the damaged cell walls and the plant dries out.
