Automatic boom height control

Case IH’s new AutoBoom XRT automatic boom height control is now available on Patriot and Trident series sprayers. It auto- matically adjusts the booms by using a combination of chassis monitoring and sensors to function as a ‘look ahead’ and de- tect changes in terrain. The radar sensors can be configured to detect the location of the ground or crop canopy, maintain a level spray platform and maximise boom life. “AutoBoom XRT outshines prior height con- trol options because it allows producers to consistently cover a wide range of terrain, from smooth topographies to waterways and terraces.” AutoBoom XRT is designed to help operators cover more acres effectively per pass and provide consistent, accurate application. According to Case IH, this op- tion is ideal for producers with longer spray booms, as the longer the boom, the more challenging it is for operators to maintain level and consistent application. The system comes with three radar sensors strategically placed along the boom, with the option to add more for a total of up to seven, for maximum points of monitoring.

iQblue connect for easy automation

Lemken launches iQblue connect, a retro- fitting kit to convert existing machines into smart ones. When combined with TIM (Tractor Implement Management), the de- vice allows numerous functions of purely mechanical implements to be automated and at the same time integrated into digital documentation. The module is connected to the tractor via its Isobus interface. It also features GPS and a mobile data connection. Data is transmitted via the agrirouter, a cross-manufacturer platform. Example: a plough is fitted with a sensor to determine the current working width. iQblue connects then calculates the target working width from the GPS position and transmits this information to the tractor to initiate the rel- evant adjustment of the working width ram. The working width is then adjusted via the tractor’s hydraulic system. Additional applications for a range of dif- ferent implements are being planned. Farmers only need a single iQblue connect module, as this mobile unit can be trans- ferred quickly and easily from one implement to another.

Terminating weed seed in combine

German company Zürn Harvesting is taking over sales, production and service for the Australian Seed Terminator in Europe. The special mill technology destroys almost all weed seeds coming out of a combine. “With regard to increasing herbicide resist- ance and few new product authorisations, we need effective alternatives soon. Thus, we see a huge potential for mechanical weed control like this new concept from Australia,” says Zürn Harvesting director Rolf Zürn. The technology consists of two high-performance multistage hammer mills which process the residue coming from the sieves. It is perfectly integrated into the combine and mechanically driven by belts. Approximately 100 units were in- stalled the last three years on combines in Australia mainly. It is now available for John Deere, Claas, Case IH and New Holland combines. Especially regular farmers struggling with herbicide resistance and organic farmers could benefit from reduced weed pressure thanks to this new technology, says Zürn Harvesting.
