Oct. 25 marks the 25th remembrance of the 1995 Fox River Grove bus-train collision. The fatal school bus crash northwest of Chicago occurred when a substitute bus driver stopped at a traffic light with the rearmost portion of the school bus overhanging the railroad tracks. A Metra Union Pacific/Northwest Line train then struck the bus, killing seven and injuring 21. The incident resulted in state legislation requiring interconnected crossings combined with greater awareness about railroad crossing safety nationwide.
