Electric Bus for a ride- and-drive experience in April.

are on our nation’s road, testing vehicles before buying them is essential to school district operations. Ken Martinez, the transportation manager for Salt Lake

City School District in Utah, said he is looking forward to attending the Green Bus Summit. “I am looking forward to learning about what others have been able to learn along their electrification projects,” he added. Martinez explained that he plans to talk with other di-

rectors who have EVs to see what they have found to work and not work. SLC has eight electric school buses in its fleet of 100, with another four electric vehicles on order.

“I know I have had problems with my transition to

electric and wanted to see if others shared the same ones or different,” he added, explaining that SLC has had a problem with charging buses. “We have had to work both with the bus manufacturer and charger manufacturer to get to a point that we can get predictable charging taking place. Now that this has been accomplished, I tried a competitor’s bus on our charger, and it will only charge their product at a much-reduced charge rate. My next hurdle is with the power company and initiating vehicle-to-grid.”
