This winter’s best events for you and your small person

ABOUT TOWN

SINCE YOU STARTED READING THIS,

THROUGH JAN 10 SNOW MUCH FUN Enjoy all the powdery fun of a snowy afternoon without having to don heavy boots or layer up at the Chicago Children’s Museum’s seasonal exhibit. Have a fluffy snowball fight, build a snow fort and glide around an indoor “ice” rink (no skates needed!). Be sure to check out the rest of the museum during your visit; there are plenty of hands-on activities to keep little ones enthralled. Chicago Children’s Museum, 700 E Grand Ave (312-527-1000, chicagochildrensmuseum.org). Fri–Wed 10am–5pm, Thu 10am–8pm; $14.

THROUGH JAN 3 WONDERLAND EXPRESS ’Tis the season to enjoy the Christmas-y charms of this holiday tradition at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Stroll through a twinkling display of 750,000 LED lights while taking in decorated evergreen trees and wreaths. The highlight of the event for choo- choo fans is surely the massive indoor model train, and we love the landmark exhibition, which contains more than 80 miniature replicas of Chicago landmarks, including the Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon, a new addition this

year. Plus, there’s caroling, live ice-sculpting and Christmas breakfast with Santa. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd, Glencoe, IL (847-835- 5440, chicagobotanic.org). At various times; $8–$12,

children under 2 free.

DEC 5–JAN 10 PNC BANK WINTER WONDERFEST Go walking in this indoor wonderland, Chicago’s largest winter carnival of its kind. Winter Wonderfest features a snowman bounce house, a 15-foot-high “snow” tubing hill, spinning hot-cocoa cups, the Kringle Carousel, a Chicago Blackhawks ice-skating rink and more arctic-themed thrills, all blissfully inside. Navy Pier, 600 E Grand Ave (800-595- 7437, navypier.com). At various times; $9–$75.
