ORCHA News October 2024 After our last Tuesday
night practice I decided to take a little survey and asked sev- eral members, “Why do you like coming to our practices?” Tim Banick responded,
“The people. Where can you go every week and work cattle and advance your horse and yourself? There is always so much help for everyone from everyone.” Steve Wilson said, “The
people. There are so many knowledgeable and experi- enced people to help anybody that needs help.” Ralph Miller, a veteran at
our shows and practices, said, “The social part of it all.” Quite regularly after the
practice, everybody sits at the picnic tables around a fire and discusses their progress among
other things. Often someone brings hot dogs or burgers for us to enjoy. Our president, Werner
Bohner replied, “For the fun! As soon as it isn’t fun, people stop coming.” Werner has been with
our association since its incep- tion over 20 years ago. As has Steve, Tim and Ralph. We have maintained our-
selves as a learning association since we started but we have kept that fun aspect for all these years. How many horse shows
do you go to where you see competitors in the same class cheering for each other and helping each other? Open rid- ers encourage green riders and vice versa. It’s called every- body having fun and enjoying
what they are doing. One thing the ORCHA has always strived to be is user friendly to its members. A single membership is only $45 and a family is $65. Our entry fees are mini- mal even with the cattle fees and we pay back money for all of our classes. Many people go home with a cheque after their entry fees are paid. The ORCHA is not an affiliated as- sociation so we don’t charge those extra fees other shows charge. All of the helpers that run our shows are volunteers and our directors collect spon- sorships that pay for our shows. Of course none of this would be possible without the gen- erosity of the Walker family. Jon Walker still comes out and has fun with us. I’m sure if I asked Jon why, he would say,
Every Breath Counts
“The people.” Just a little trivia: Werner
and his current mount Casey have earned almost $7000 in ORCHA lifetime earnings. Three generations of the
Miller family have earned over $4000 on Ernie. Ralph Miller has also
collected $2200 on his mare, Play In The Rain. Jacquie Gowing earned
$4200 riding You QT Cat. Up and comer Lectric
Bill has earned $1700 with lim- ited showing.
Not only can you
have a lot of fun at ORCHA shows, you can make some money to boot!
