TILE CARE & MAINTENANCE

THE PERFECT STORM PAD

Surface preparation specialist The Preparation Group explains how Storm

Diamond Pads can be used to care for tile and stone surfaces.

Dirty, stained and scratched tiled and stone surfaces can easily be refurbished and maintained using an auto scrubber, burnisher, polisher or STG450 machine together with diamond impregnated cleaning pads.

The pads present a highly efficient and sustainable method of floor cleaning and maintenance on hard surfaces including terrazzo tiles, natural stone, marble and ceramics. No harsh chemicals, cleaners, waxes or polishes are needed, just water, resulting in a hygienic, shiny, yet non-slip floor.

The Preparation Group, specialist in environmentally- friendly solutions for preparing, cleaning and finishing, offers double-sided Storm Diamond Pads in four grades: 400, 800, 1500 and 3000.

The coarsest 400 pad is designed to effectively refurbish tiles. This can then be followed by working up through the finer grades to achieve a deep clean and high shine polish.

400 (red): for heavy-duty floor cleaning and renovation of extremely soiled, stained, old floors. Also for the deep

How to use Storm Diamond Pads

1. Before you start Ensure that the surface is swept clean and any loose material removed (to avoid damage to the Storm Pad).

2. Attach the Storm Pad

All machines differ. Some have central locking devices, some rely on the pad slotting onto a central mounting and some have no securing device at all.

Fit your Storm Pad in the same way as you would any other conventional cleaning pad.

3. Use ‘dry’ of just add water

Excellent results can be achieved by using the Storm Pad ‘dry’. However, with the application of water, the floor can be cleaned quicker, the pad will last longer and you will achieve enhanced shine.

4. Start your machine

You can now begin cleaning. The rotating operation of your scrubber/dryer, pad pressure and speed will affect the cleaning/polishing process.

5. Wash your Storm pad after use. — 18 —

cleaning of damaged or lightly scratched floors and for removing surface contaminants to leave a soft sheen, ready to be polished.

800 (white): for the general cleaning of soiled floors and removing light staining from areas of heavy traffic and restoring the floor back to its original condition, leaving a light gloss finish.

1500 (yellow): for the general cleaning and maintenance of lightly soiled floors. It is the most popular pad for quick & effective maintenance and results in a gloss finish.

3000 (green): for areas of light traffic. It can be used for the daily maintenance of a ‘sound’ floor where the ultimate shine is desired and needs to be maintained. It leaves a high gloss/mirror finish which will resist dirt.

Each Storm Pad covers up to 60,000m2 . PPC in Practice: Terrazzo Tile Refurbishment

The Preparation Group’s contracting division, PPC, was recently contracted to refurbish 132m² of terrazzo tiles in the washroom of a manufacturing site in Yorkshire. The tiles were old and in a poor state, with a huge build-up of dirt, residue and staining.

For the first stage, the company used an STG450 machine with 400 grit Storm Diamond Pads which are the coarsest, to remove both the dirt and scratches. This revealed the brightly coloured tiles that were hidden underneath. For the next stage, 800 grit Storm Pads were employed to leave the surface with a light sheen. The last stage used the 1500 grit for a glossy, easy clean finish. After refurbishing the floor, the room was re- fitted with the cubicles and sanitary ware.

The customer purchased the 1500 Storm Pads to use with their own auto scrubbing machine for the floor’s ongoing care and maintenance.
