BEWI ENHANCES SUSTAINABILITY WITH NEW JACKOBOARD LIGNIN

BEWI has announced the launch of a groundbreaking innovation into its Jackoboard construction board range – Jackoboard Lignin.

This new generation of tileable construction boards contains renewable raw materials and is produced in an environmentally friendly way, thanks to the utilisation of green electricity. This makes Jackoboard Lignin boards a responsible choice for environmentally conscious construction projects.

The core of the construction board contains the biopolymer lignin, which is a byproduct of the paper industry. In addition to lignin, the construction board core contains only recycled material. The product provides improved sustainability, with a reduced carbon footprint and an impressive 60% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional XPS.

This new launch aligns with the emissions reduction targets in the building and construction industry, as well as with BEWI’s own ambitions to become circular, including increasing the use of recycled and non-fossil materials within the company’s product offering.

It is important to stress that Lignin retains the excellent product properties of the well-known purple construction boards from Jackoboard. Like

all Jackoboard construction boards, Lignin can be used to form an ideal base for tiling. The surfaces of the Jackoboard system provide an extremely strong bond, which can be used on virtually any substrate. The boards are waterproof, thermally insulating, lightweight and very strong, making them ideal for waterproof bathroom and wetroom projects.

“We have launched Lignin in response to market demand,” said Michael Hailwood, Director at BEWI UK & Ireland. “Our customers are increasingly looking for sustainable solutions, and although the XPS of the traditional Jackoboard range provides many advantages from a sustainability point of view, mainly because of its very strong thermal performance and durability, some customers are looking for products which do not include fossil fuel-based elements within their manufacture – Lignin provides that.”
