AWARDS 2021 THE RESULTS ARE IN… ASBESTOS CONSULTANCY BY ACORN

ANALYTICAL SERVICES Acorn Analytical Services was founded as an asbestos consultancy and testing laboratory in 2000. It now has branches in Northampton, Birmingham, Cleckheaton, Leeds and London and employs more than 80 people across the five offices.

Acorn is now a multi-disciplined asbestos consultancy that works with businesses, local authorities, schools, employers and individuals to protect them from the negative health effects of asbestos.

It offers services including asbestos surveys, asbestos air testing, analysis of samples and clearances. It also provides United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) approved asbestos awareness training courses for companies nationwide.

The company’s services have evolved over the last 20 years, and whilst Acorn still has in-house testing laboratories, it has also expanded into the built environment and Computer Aided Design (CAD). Setting up a CAD department that can create scaled and measured floor plans of buildings or sites has really helped Acorn when it comes to carrying out asbestos surveys or removal projects. Clients can also use these with other contractors, often saving money as jobs are quoted based on accurate measurements.

Over the years, as the teams have grown and services diversified, Acorn has stayed at the forefront of technological and legal developments. Its laboratory testing methods and equipment are routinely reviewed, calibrated and updated. In recent years, Acorn has also launched a podcast and published a bestselling book on the dangers of asbestos.

www.acorn-as.com WHAT THEY SAID:

Ian Stone, Director at Acorn Analytical Services: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Tomorrow’s Health and Safety Award. It is an incredible achievement for our team, who are innovative and passionate in their approach, using modern technology such as podcasts and video brochures and working with asbestos campaigners to raise awareness of asbestos and save lives.

“Sadly, thousands of people in the UK continue to die as a result of being exposed to asbestos every year. So, we work tirelessly to educate workplaces and the wider public about the dangers of asbestos and ensure companies don’t fall foul of the law and face crippling fines.

“To be recognised for our hard work in this way is just fantastic.”
