Comprehensive training on ladder safety is an indispensable tool in minimising ladder-related accidents. Education on selecting the right ladder, recognising and mitigating potential hazards, and employing safe climbing practices empower electrical professionals to navigate the risks of working at height. Can you tell us about your company's history in innovative ladder design?


As a fourth-generation family business, T.B Davies has always been at the forefront of innovation in ladder manufacturing. Our company was founded in the 1940s by my great-grandfather and a comrade from the RAF. Combining their entrepreneurial spirit with a vision for the future of access equipment, they quickly became market leaders in supplying quality ladders. In the 1960s, they pioneered the introduction of aluminium ladders, reshaping the market with lighter, more durable solutions for working at height. That pioneering spirit remains a core part of our business.


We are proud members of the Ladder Association, and in my role as Chair, I am passionate about working with members to drive up safety standards across the sector. Part of that is about product design and material selection; another part is offering comprehensive, accredited training to give professionals the knowledge to use ladders safely and confidently.

The advancements in ladder safety I'm most excited about involve smart technology and ergonomic design. Innovations such as ladders with built-in load sensors alert users when the weight limit is exceeded and could redefine industry safety standards. Developing materials that combine lightweight properties with enhanced strength and durability promises to make ladders more user-friendly and inclusive for a wider range of users. These technological and material advancements, coupled with improved safety features like anti-slip treads and enhanced stability systems, will significantly elevate safety standards and transform how ladders are used in the workplace.
