It is no exaggeration to say that the pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we work and live. As our behaviour has changed to try and curb the spread of the virus, so too have our attitudes, particularly when it comes to cleaning and hygiene.

Of course, cleanliness has always been important for commercial success, helping customers to form a good impression and influencing their decision to return or recommend. But now, end-users’ expectations are at an all-time high. This intense level of scrutiny is set to remain the case for quite some time longer too. In an age of social media, where negative comments can quickly tarnish a reputation, it has never been more important for establishments to build and maintain a good image.

But cleaning and hygiene are not just about cultivating positive perceptions to attract and retain custom. They are cornerstones of health and safety. In a world still battling against Coronavirus, premises must be clean and healthy places, in which staff and visitors can work, shop, eat, and spend time safely.

SKILLED WORKERS = HEALTHY SPACES Before the pandemic, cleaning staff were often held

in low regard and their roles perceived as unskilled – a job that ‘anyone’ could do. However, cleaning is much more than dunking a mop in a bucket and whirling it around the floor or swiping a cloth across a surface. In actual fact, it can often be quite hazardous. For example, staff are exposed to harmful chemicals, required to handle sharps, and today, of course, they need to follow strict protocols to kill Coronavirus, whilst minimising the risk of contracting it themselves.

Facilitating high quality and relevant training for staff is therefore essential. They not only to help to uphold standards, but also help to ensure workers’ health and safety, especially as they continue to work with


COVID-19 in general circulation. It safeguards the welfare of other occupants in the establishment too.
