January brings with it an array of new year’s resolutions; a time to make sense of the previous 12 months and reflect on what we can do better in the year ahead. This level of self-evaluation and continuous development is of course absolutely critical in the health and safety industry, so it’s a good job the professions’ industry body is around to help.

http://www.tomorrowshs.com/health-and-safety-news/new-safety-and-health-competency-framework-to-improve-standards

Regular visitors to our website will have noticed the story we published in December about the new Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) competency framework. One of the major roles IOSH has to play as a Chartered body is to set the standards for occupational safety and health. Due to the rapid changes in the workplace, with working practices transformed on a regular basis to meet new regulations and laws, this updated framework intends to enhance the general effectiveness of the OSH professional.

With 69 competencies, divided into 12 areas across technical, core and behavioural categories, the newly updated framework covers all the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed by occupational safety and health professionals.

IOSH intends to follow the release of this updated competency framework with the launch of an enhanced suite of practical tools, a new CPD scheme, new technical guides and a free Career Hub. As we begin a new decade, it’s great to see the institute delivering high-quality resources to help support and develop its members.

Whilst we have you, please do take the time to vote in the Tomorrow’s Health & Safety Awards. It’s extremely close at the moment and every vote counts. You can see the finalists and cast your vote by clicking this link.
