NEWS FAST TEMPORARY WORKS RESPONSE HELPS KEEP GLAZING BUSINESS MOVING
When a forklift truck caused damage to a major structural column at Granada Glazing’s production site near Sheffield, the glazing manufacturer faced having to pause production while repair works were carried out. Working with Mabey Hire, the temporary works specialist supplied a bespoke propping scheme that allowed Granada to remain open for business.
The UK’s largest manufacturer of aluminium secondary glazing, Granada Glazing has been in business for over 45 years, with its main manufacturing site based in Dinnington, near Sheffield. However, the company faced having to pause production after damage was caused to a main structural column in the factory by a forklift truck, with the column needing to be carefully removed and replaced – a painstaking operation.
After researching the market, Granada Glazing approached Mabey Hire – the temporary works specialist – to see if its engineering teams could offer a solution.
Speaking about the project, James Savage, Health & Safety Coordinator at Granada Glazing, said: “Fortunately for us, Mabey Hire sprang into action and were able to design a bespoke propping scheme that could support the roof members while the necessary repair works were carried out to the structural column.”
The propping scheme was designed using four of Mabey Hire’s Mass 25 towers for stability, with a capacity of 25 tonnes per leg. Mark Gent, Sales Manager – Structural Support at Mabey Hire, explained: “While we could have propped the roof with single props, it felt far safer and more practical to use four leg towers instead. This also ensured that site teams were able to access the damaged column, which must be removed and replaced.
“Of course, with the site in question being a live factory environment, this presented additional challenges, being imperative that it was able to remain operational throughout. As such, we had to keep the footprint of the propping to an absolute minimum, allowing work to continue around and minimise disruption to the company’s daily business.”
Mabey Hire’s Mass 25 propping system has been designed with flexibility in mind. Modular in nature, its
INTASITE TO RELOCATE TO LARGER HQ AS RAPID GROWTH CONTINUES
Site-safety technology specialist Intasite is preparing to relocate to a significantly larger headquarters this year as rising demand drives continued expansion of its team, client base and technology offering.
The Teesside-based SasS (software as service) company, which provides cloud-based inductions and access- control systems, has outgrown its current premises following a 20% revenue increase in 2025 and sustained growth in platform usage across the UK and overseas.
The forthcoming move will see the company take on a new base around four times the size of its existing office, creating additional capacity for a growing development team, expanded customer support function and larger project delivery operation. The relocation plan follows six recent appointments and the strengthening of its senior leadership team with SaaS growth expert Steve Spark joining the board.

Danielle Croce, Operations Director at Intasite, said: “We’ve known for some time that we were going to need more space. The pace of growth over the last couple of years has been remarkable, and the demands on the team have increased with it. The new headquarters will give us room to work the way we need to, with proper spaces for collaboration, development and project work.
“It’s about having an environment that supports where the business is heading, with more clients, larger projects, and the continuous improvement of our platform. The move feels like the right step at the right time.”
The company expects to complete the relocation later this year and is planning further recruitment to support its expanding product roadmap and growing international client base.

James concluded: “It’s been a massive challenge from start to finish, as it’s certainly a situation that we’ve never had to deal with before. However, the support from Mabey Hire has been fantastic throughout, with regular progress updates. Hopefully we won’t have the need for temporary propping of this nature again, but if we do then we know exactly who to turn to.”
