CARE HOME RESIDENTS ENJOY ‘SUPER TROUPER’

Regent Centre in Christchurch, to provide a dementia-friendly cinema experience for its residents.


Residents of Fairmile Grange recently visited the restored 1930’s art deco cinema to watch the box office hit Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. As well as watching the film which stars Meryl Streep and many other household names, Fairmile Grange’s residents also enjoyed ice cream and hot drinks.

STRICTLY STAR OFFICIALLY OPENS NEW HALLMARK CARE


HOME Professional dancer Ian Waite was the guest of honour recently at the opening of a new £13m Hallmark care home in Girton, Cambridge.


Ian, who is best known for his appearances on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing, cut the ribbon in front of 200 guests recently as part of Arlington Manor Care Home’s official grand launch event.


As part of the residential and dementia care home’s special event, guests were invited to view the home’s state of the art facilities, which includes a cinema, hairdressers, therapy room, and café.


Other design innovations at the home include; a physio room, a musical room, a celebrations room which can be reserved for functions, a winter terrace and an outdoor putting green.


The aſternoon event, which was attended by local businesses and care professionals alike, was culminated by speeches and a buffet lunch.


Speaking at the launch, Ian said: “It is an absolute honour to be here and I cannot believe how much detail has gone into this place. It’s not a care home, it’s a home. The space and the light is astounding and I’m sure anybody would want to come here.”

“Over 10,000 people have now joined us for screenings of the film and it is our aim to promote inclusivity whenever possible for all members of the community, as we welcome them to live shows and films throughout the year.

Following the cinema trip the home welcomed the singing duo, the Land Girls, who performed several Abba crowd favourites for everyone at Fairmile Grange to enjoy.


Mary Maughan-Otten, Home Manager of Fairmile Grange, explained: “As there is still a stigma surrounding dementia and the impact it can have on a person’s life, it is important we organise dementia-friendly outings, to help raise awareness about the condition.


“We are delighted to establish a partnership with the Regent Centre, which also recognises the significance of supporting this campaign. Our residents had a fantastic time singing along to the film and we will definitely visit the cinema again soon.”
