DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEARING LOSS
Hearing loss affects people in all walks of life and it is not something to be ashamed of. With an advance in modern technology allowing us to have the latest iPods, televisions and experience at music festivals, we are more at risk of developing a loss earlier, with younger people suffering as well as the older generations.
There are many different types of hearing loss, the most common being age-related as it is a natural part of the ageing process. The hearing loss tends to be significantly more at higher frequencies. Age-related hearing loss most commonly

develops over time, which means that people don’t really notice it until it has become very obvious.
While it should be noted that hearing loss through age is incurable, it can oſten be assisted by the use of devices such as hearing aids. This means there is always hope that your hearing can be improved and can boost your chances of being able to lead as normal a life as possible.
NOISE-INDUCED HEARING LOSS
Noise-induced hearing loss is caused by damage to the hair cells of the hearing organ (cochlea) caused by exposure to higher than normal levels of noise. Typically, noise-induced hearing loss occurs in both ears.
The extent of the damage and speed of onset of the hearing loss caused by noise is dependent on several factors including; length of exposure, loudness and proximity to sound and whether or not any form of hearing protection is worn.
Hearing protection comes in many different varieties. Foam ear plugs are the cheapest form of hearing protection and are most commonly used and provided by those in the construction industry. There are also custom ear moulds that are generally made from a silicone type material and they are designed uniquely to fit the user’s ear. All types of hearing protection are available from Hidden Hearing.
