Hello and welcome to the June/July issue of Tomorrow’s Care.


Carers Week 2026, which took place this June, offered an important opportunity to recognise the vital contribution of both paid and unpaid carers across the UK. This year’s theme, Building Friendly Communities, highlights how stronger local connections and more supportive networks are essential to reducing isolation and improving outcomes for carers and those they support.


Alongside this, the sector continues to grapple with persistent challenges, from workforce pressures and rising demand to the ongoing strain on funding and service sustainability. These issues reinforce the need for joined-up thinking and long-term reform across health and social care.


In this issue, Paul Burstow, Chair of the Board at the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), asks what a truly effective social care system would require, examining the difficult choices around entitlement, funding and responsibility.
