The Covid-19 pandemic provided an apt reminder of just how important technology is for the social care sector. Faced with unprecedented social distancing restrictions, online services, computers, and smartphones proved essential, both in the delivery of care and in supporting the wellbeing of service users.
The PASS platform, powered by everyLIFE, was just one example of this, playing a vital role in enabling carers across a range of care settings to deliver person-centred care. Furthermore, technology helped to protect the emotional wellbeing of those most vulnerable in our society through increased use of video calling, social media, online community support groups, and many other digital services.
As the sector emerges from the worst of the pandemic, we must not lose this willingness to incorporate technology into

everyday practices. The Internet of Things (IoT) is just one area that could enable platforms such as PASS to support social care in completely new and exciting ways. Its ability to connect different systems and devices, allowing them to work together in a way we have never seen before, could usher in a new era of enhanced safety, efficiency, and – most importantly – improved care outcomes.
The potential for IoT-based solutions in social care are vast and could help to build better-informed care plans for all kinds of care, ensuring that individuals are receiving the optimum level of support across the system.
