For hoteliers up and down the country, keeping carpets looking clean and fresh is essential if they want to maintain their high standards. Oztek tell us how they have helped one hotel chain revitalise their worn-down floors.
Carpets are one of any hotels most expensive assets, so it is therefore surprising that so many of them are still not cleaned to acceptable or indeed certified standards. This means that, more often than not, they can become an expensive and unsightly problem for hotel cleaning staff to try and manage effectively before inevitably being consigned to land fill sites way before their life expectancy.
Traditional carpet cleaning methods, even including those that incorporate “new technology”, all have their place within the general remit of removing dirt from heavily trafficked carpets but, none so far, provide the complete solution – maintaining their appearance whilst also ensuring that they are cleaned to carpet manufacturers intended standards.
Oztek is a fast cleaning system for both carpeted and hard flooring that wipes
clean carpet fibres and floor surfaces from all angles, oscillating dirt and contaminates from fibres and surfaces, removing soil which traditional methods will simply not be capable of. The Oztek opens and restores carpet pile fast and efficiently, leaving it looking like new and odour free.
Hotel carpets, apart from being an expensive asset to care for, are often one of the first sights to greet visitors and therefore offer an immediate first impression of the hotel’s overall standard of cleanliness and service.
Traffik UK Ltd maintain carpets for many of the UK’s leading high street retailers, hotel chains and commercial organisations and are partners with leading UK and European carpet manufacturers, helping to resolve maintenance issues on their behalf.
The company were recently called in by Ege Carpets to help Khanna Enterprises Ltd, a UK-based company with hotels in Oxford, Nottingham and Kenilworth, who were experiencing problems with carpets in their busy Holiday Inn Franchise in Kenilworth.
Howard O’Brien, Managing Director at Traffik UK, said: “With 115 recently refurbished, air-conditioned bedrooms, a busy bar and brasserie, together with a Starbucks store and mini gym, this hotel experiences very heavy foot fall. In both bedrooms and public areas, such as corridors and the bar area, the carpets were really beginning to let the overall appearance of the hotel down. The carpeting throughout the hotel had been supplied by Ege and the current cleaning and maintenance programmes were just not achieving the results that Ege and the hotel were happy with.”

not only dirty but flat and worn. They were being wet cleaned on a monthly basis, which had caused damage with delamination to the backing systems from excessive water being used and, when “cleaning” had been completed, huge fans to force dry the carpets caused noise disruption throughout the hotel – all in all a complete restoration of all carpeting was required and a new maintenance regime needed to be implemented.
The carpets were firstly vacuumed thoroughly and then the Oztek system was used to restore and deep clean. The results were, according to General Manager, David Myskow: “incredible, not only were they restored to their original appearance but the fact that it only took a few hours compared to almost a whole day with the previous system meant very little disruption to the working of the hotel and of course, no noisy fans for guests and staff to contend with. The carpets are now being maintained by Traffik on a six monthly basis rather than the previous monthly basis and, due to the success of their work in Kenilworth, Traffik have also taken on the maintenance of carpets and flooring in the our Best Western franchised hotels in Oxford and Nottingham.”
