THE MANSION HOUSE

The venue for the ICCA Industry Awards 2018 is the iconic Mansion House in Dublin, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Construction on the building began in 1705 and was originally intended as a townhouse for local merchant and property developer Joshua Dawson, who also developed nearby Dawson Street and Nassau Street. Dawson sold the unfinished building to Dublin Corporation a decade later, and it has remained the Lord Mayor of Dublin’s official residence ever since.

Dublin was the first city in either Ireland or Britain to have an official residence for its Lord Mayor, beating London by 15 years, and the Mansion House has served in this role ever since 1715. It is also the oldest free-standing house in Dublin.

The Industry Awards will be taking place inside the famous Round Room, which was designed in 1821 to receive King George IV. In 1919 it made history by hosting the first ever meeting of the Dáil Éireann, and over the years it has hosted the likes of Queen Victoria, Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela, Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace of Monaco.
