“School cleaning personnel are prone to repetitive strain injury, including the painful syndrome carpel tunnel.”
Cleaning narrow areas
A common problem in the school environment, often tackled with a mop, is the boy’s toilets. Urine often infiltrates the flooring around the toilets, resulting in a pungent smell that only bleach will cover.
The Nilfisk SC100 upright scrubber dryer has proven very successful within these areas. With a narrow cleaning width of only 36cm, the SC100 easily accesses hard to reach corners, solving the immediate problem and delivering improved results over time. The SC100 also performs very well on carpets, proving ideal for the many spillages that are a normal part of daily school life.
Training, training, training
Changing the perceptions of long-term cleaning staff is rarely easy: it is certainly difficult to win all members of the team over at once. Success was achieved by moving slowly with those exhibiting reluctance to change and let those team members embracing the new processes to lead the way. The results after all speak for themselves, as the cost savings were evident to all.
So much of what FM cleaning contractors deliver is about floorcare: floors thick with product, hygienically clean but lacking lustre, will never impress the client or the public. Whilst changes have been slow, finally the times are changing for the better.
We found it important to work with a provider who understands the issue of changing attitudes, transforming mindsets to embrace not just new technology but the financial, ergonomic and environmental impact of less chemical and reduced manual labour.
Nilfisk has an ethos of continual improvement, demonstrating that not only can the cleaning result be
