relationships with their commercial clients and domestic customers. In so doing they've curated decades of feedback from cleaning professionals regarding cleaning products and technology, which formed the foundation upon which Velo was built, making it truly a machine with a user-centric focus, amongst the first machines of its kind.
The result is a powerful backpack vacuum cleaner featuring the latest in cordless technology, giving users complete freedom to clean without the restraint of a cord. Designed small enough to spot clean and strong enough to fulfil whole cleaning tasks, Velo replaces both commercial and domestic needs for multiple, single-purpose machines.
The most innovative product by Pacvac, Velo introduces a new generation of cleaning that can be used across both domestic and commercial markets, redefining the very application it was built for and cementing the brand’s position as technological leaders in the cleaning industry.
Leading the Pacvac team behind the machine were Head of Product and Development, Adam Hirsk, and Senior Industrial Designer Product Developer, Ethan Wang
Wang commented: “The Velo project was the result of collective collaboration across the Product, Research & Development, Marketing, Sales and Supply Chain departments, but we won’t stop here. We will continue to improve on our design as innovators thanks to this prestigious award.”
This ever-evolving design improvement includes Pacvac taking their first few steps on their sustainability journey with the release of Velo. Velo was designed using 28% less plastic than any other machine in Pacvac’s range, and any plastic that was used is completely recyclable.
Pacvac are gradually introducing recycled post-consumer polyester (rPET) into their product range, starting with the eco material in Velo’s harness, made from 100% rPET certified with a Global Recycled Standard of 4.0.
Pacvac designed Velo using long-lasting, high quality and affordable materials from all over the globe to ensure longevity, so that users can replace parts, not products.

This way they can minimise the number of machines contributing to landfill, and carbon emissions through producing endless machines as replacements.
Velo was also the first product in the Pacvac range to roll out the new, more eco-friendly branding. This included less plastic packaging in the box, adding a reusable machine bag to protect Velo in transit, and replacing the glossy colourful machine packaging with a monochromatic print on cardboard, which is less toxic to the environment and easier to recycle.
Pacvac’s Executive Director, Donna Rothwell, is honoured by Velo’s recognition, having watched the organisation grow from a humble idea to a multinational corporation over the past 44 years.
The Pacvac journey started using basic garage and household items with a clever design and, through continual innovation, the company has now expanded their product range to include a vacuum cleaner which is suited to almost any cleaning application, and distributed to more than 23 different countries worldwide.
Donna Rothwell said: “Within the cleaning industry we’re recognised as leaders in backpack vacuum cleaning technology and innovation, so this award is truly a milestone for Pacvac. For our Velo to receive this accolade in the design world, it is a wonderful recognition that we believe our whole team has worked extremely hard for, and it will allow us to take our future designs to another level with this new global design audience.”
The team at Pacvac would like to thank everyone involved in the international design endorsement and promotion program, and congratulate all our fellow finalists and entrants on their wonderful work.
We look forward to continuing our work in pushing the boundaries of design needs in the ever changing, and challenging environments that the cleaning industry faces on a global scale.
