Awards success for Velo Pacvac’s Velo gets the Australian Good Design Awards’ Tick of approval.

In a world where clever marketing campaigns are launching new and amazing products every day, how can we determine which of these products are worth all the hype?

You could scroll through thousands of different reviews from strangers, place your trust in an influencer’s recommendation (which has potentially been paid for), or you could look for the Australian Good Design Award’s Tick; amongst the most respected and recognised international design endorsement symbols in the industry.

This registered trademark is a visible indicator of good design and a brand’s commitment to excellence in design and innovation, as determined by a panel of industry experts in product design. In 2021 it was awarded to Pacvac’s backpack vacuum cleaner – Velo.

As first-time entrants to The Good Design Awards, the team at Pacvac were delighted to learn that our latest backpack vacuum cleaner, Velo, was the 2021 winner of the Product Design Commercial and Industrial category.

The Australian Good Design Awards are one of the longest-running international design awards in the world, showcasing Australian excellence in design and innovation to a global audience since 1958. Recognised by the World Design Organisation (WDO) as Australia’s leading international design endorsement and promotion program, the awards cover more than 30 categories and sub- categories across 12 design disciplines.

Entries from all throughout Australia represent projects across broad sectors and industries, covering everything from the design of everyday products we use, the services we interact with, and the places and spaces we occupy. The design of these processes and systems underpin our businesses, industries, economies and social habits, as seen in the work of previous award winners Samsung, Canva, Mitsubishi, Gro-To, and Keep Cup amongst others.

Head of Marketing at Pacvac, Urvin Seeburuth, says that the Pacvac team are humbled to join this legacy of industry leaders in innovation and design. He said: “Receiving this award means so much to everyone who has been involved in the development of Velo, from conception through to completion.

“We’re now able to add the Good Design Tick to all of our marketing, packaging, and advertising of Velo, which immediately identifies the product as having met the highest level of design standards on an international level. In marketing, our careers are dedicated to finding new and exciting ways to promote our products to the world, so having earnt the right to use the historically recognisable tick, it’s a total unicorn.”

The Australian Good Design Awards are widely regarded as having one of the most rigorous and transparent design evaluation processes in the industry, with judging experts taking great pride in setting international best practice in design evaluation.

Rachel Wye, Good Design Australia’s General Manager, added: “The Good Design Award Winner accolade is awarded to entries that, in the opinion of the judges, have satisfied the evaluation criteria for Good Design.”

Pacvac’s award entrant Velo was judged against such criteria across the categories of form, function, safety, sustainability, quality, commerciality and innovation.

Three years in the making, Velo is characterised through harmonising soft curvature with strong industrial lines to represent the machine's high performing features; the culmination of comparative product research, sketching, 3D model making, prototyping and testing.

Pacvac is well regarded for its customer service, and with an NPS score of 81 they pride themselves on building
