SOLUS CERAMICS GRADUATES WITH STYLE
When a refurbishment at Coventry University required fresh, safe and smart flooring, contractors chose tiles from Solus Ceramics to do the job.
Tile supplier Solus Ceramics has aided the refurbishment of the home of Coventry University’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences through the provision of its stylish Rawstone range.
Coventry University has just completed the first phase of a £60million project which saw its Richard Crossman Building given a comprehensive refurbishment. The 100,000ft2 faculty is currently home to a range of health and life science departments, including student registry services, paramedics, nursing, occupational therapy and psychology.
The refurbishment, managed by design studio Broadway Malyan working with principal contractor Overbury, saw the transformation of all five storeys to implement a range of exciting and aspirational teaching and social spaces that encourage learning.
To complement the exposed concrete framing design that runs throughout the entire building, Broadway Malyan specified the use of Solus Ceramics’ Rawstone tile range.
Providing a realistic and often more practical porcelain alternative to natural stone, Rawstone features elongated streaks and tonal variations which showcase individualistic features

and charming aesthetics that work in harmony with the overall refurbishment design.
Mark Evans, Associate at Broadway Malyan, said: “We are delighted to be handing over this phase of the scheme that has delivered the vision set out during the stakeholder engagements and is the next piece of the jigsaw in Coventry University’s aspiration to create world-class health and life science teaching facilities.
“The Richard Crossman refurbishment marks our first completed project for the University and we are now focusing on the delivery of numerous other exciting developments for the university that will further reinforce
its emerging reputation as one of the UK’s leading institutions for teaching and research”
Rob Talliss, Director of Estate Development at Coventry University, concluded: “The project has produced a total transformation of the Richard Crossman Building, turning it into a modern and open faculty that provides the perfect environment for students and staff.
“The project was so well designed and phased that, already, it is hard to remember how it was before. It is a building of which the university can be very proud.”
