THE HEAT IS ON
Hot conditions along with high-humidity can spell disaster for vinyl floors. However, two installations in a fitness centre and a heavily glazed kitchen demonstrate that
F.Ball has the solution.
TEMPERATURE RISING Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS, water-based temperature tolerant adhesive was also used to install luxury vinyl tiles in a heavily glazed kitchen, at a residential property in Oxfordshire.
Finch Flooring of Oxfordshire was contracted to install 35m2 of luxury vinyl tiles in the kitchen, which features floor to ceiling windows. As such the kitchen floor is subject to direct sunlight and significant temperature variations throughout the year. These conditions can cause floorcoverings to expand and contract over time, leading to problems such as gapping and tenting.
However, the unique formulation of Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS provides the perfect solution by combining high temperature tolerance, high bond strength and pressure sensitive properties to ensure that even under the most extreme temperature fluctuations, floorcoverings are held firmly in place, offering a combination of qualities not usually provided by traditional temperature tolerant adhesives.
PACKING A PUNCH AT THE GYM F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS vinyl adhesive, a revolutionary development in temperature tolerant adhesives, has been used to install vinyl flooring, as part of the refurbishment of the Wellington College fitness centre, in Berkshire.
Vulcan Flooring, based in Sandhurst, was contracted to install 70m2
of luxury vinyl tiles over a subfloor that was part
sand/cement screed and part plywood raised platform. After removing the existing floorcovering, contractors built up the raised platform with timber, chipboard and plywood and applied Stopgap 1200 Pro smoothing underlayment over the raised platform and the screed subfloor.
Vulcan Flooring then used new Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS temperature tolerant vinyl adhesive to adhere the floorcoverings. The adhesive proved to be the perfect product for the refurbishment and enabled contractors to successfully install luxury vinyl sheet and wood effect planks.
Michael Gray, of Vulcan Flooring, said: “We use F. Ball products on every refurbishment that we do and we always find them to be a reliable, good fit for the flooring that we are installing. Styccobond F49 was no different – it enabled us to adhere the flooring successfully and easily and we will certainly be using it again in the future.”

Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS is designed for bonding vinyl tiles and sheets in areas subject to temperature fluctuations as low as -20°C and up to +60°C, such as conservatories or heavily glazed areas and is suitable for use over normal underfloor heating systems. It gives strong initial tack, has high bond strength, and offers a long open time of up to four hours.
Paul Finch, owner of Finch Flooring, commented: “We always use F. Ball products when we are installing flooring and we are very pleased that our F. Ball representative recommended that we used Styccobond F49 for this installation. Styccobond F49 is a great product and it certainly helped us to combat the issue of installing vinyl tiles in an area that is subject to extreme temperature change.”
