EDITOR’S VOICE Hello and welcome to the October issue of TCF.

We go back to school in this issue and shine the spotlight on some amazing installations in education settings. Firstly, we take a look at Cardiff University where Altro Ensemble LVT has been used to create a bright, modern stylish space then we visit a primary school in Oxfordshire which features a bespoke emblem made with Amtico Signature.

While the choice of floorcoverings is undoubtedly important when specifying a durable and hardwearing floor, subfloor preparation is even more so. We hear from F. Ball on how their fast-track products enabled the refurbishment of a school hall during exam period without disruption to pupils.

As well as durability and aesthetics, another key consideration for flooring is acoustics. This is true not only in schools where sound insulation is paramount for learning but anywhere that people work or live. With this in mind, we feature some sound advice from Quiet Mark MD Poppy Szkiler on selecting floorcoverings with in-built with noise-reduction properties and Interfloor’s Gary Cowley talks us through sound-supressing underlays.

Our Makeover of the Month highlights some often-over-looked benefits that flooring can provide. Forbo’s Flotex Wood flocked floorcovering has been used at the home of a seven-year-old disabled boy to create a warm and comforting surface for him to play on.

I hope you enjoy the issue!
