With pandemic restrictions now completely scrapped, things seem to be moving forward in a positive direction and businesses across the country will be looking forward to operating under normal conditions once again.
However, Covid-19 has left its mark and changed the way we do things on every level, streamlining some processes and utilising technology to help us to work in a more efficient way.
As lockdown restrictions forced a consumer shift from the hight street to online shopping, the increased need for automation in warehouses has led to a change in the requirements for flooring in industrial settings, as Tim Absolom at Saint Gobain Weber discusses in his article on page 20.
Although the hospitality sector has been back up and running for some time now, the pandemic has had a strong impact on flooring choices within the sector. There is obviously an increased focus on cleanliness and hygiene but designers are also looking to create calm and tranquil environments by choosing subtle flooring transitions over strong abstract shapes. In her article on page 30, Sarah Thorpe, at Amtico, considers the changing and emerging trends in the sector.
For anybody interested in interior design and the latest trends, Clerkenwell is the place to be in May. Following a two-year hiatus, Clerkenwell Design Week returns to London’s creative district from 24-26 May. With major flooring and tiling manufacturers opening their showroom doors and putting on exciting events and talks, it really is not to be missed. We shine the spotlight on some of the must- attend events in our preview on page 40.
