GRADUS WELCOMES VISITORS TO THE GATE Contract interiors specialist Gradus has supplied Esplanade 6000 primary barrier matting to The Gate leisure and entertainment centre in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Gate is a premier leisure complex with a wide range of restaurants and bars, as well as a casino. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment that includes a brand new lobby area that completely changes the entrance by leading visitors further inside the building.
As part of The Gate’s £3.5 million investment programme, Gradus’ Esplanade 6000 primary barrier matting in closed construction with Boulevard 6000 wipers in Nightfall was installed at various entrances to the complex, providing an ideal matting solution for such a busy leisure and retail environment.
Paul Staines, Site Services Manager for The Gate’s refurbishment said: “The Gate welcomes over eight million people to its facilities each year so we needed to specify a durable matting solution
that could cope with the demands of this heavy traffic environment.
“We are delighted with the standard of the new matting installed by Gradus. It gives the entrance a sleek, modern and professional appearance to visitors entering The Gate.”
Karen Burman, Marketing Product Manager for Gradus, commented: “Esplanade 6000 in closed construction was the perfect solution for The Gate as it is a durable matting system designed to withstand heavy foot and wheeled traffic.
“Barrier matting forms the start of the journey through a building. Our systems help to reduce slip accidents caused by wet floors and help to maintain the aesthetics of surrounding floorcoverings by reducing the amount of dirt and moisture tracked in from foot and wheeled traffic. This in turn, reduces maintenance costs and prolongs the life of the surrounding floorcoverings.”
“A well-specified barrier matting system will not only increase public safety but will also enhance the appearance of the entrance by creating a clean and welcoming first impression.

UZIN PRODUCTS USED IN HOSPITAL Leighton Hospital, part of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), had faced problems and delays when renovating multiple floors in key areas within the hospital.
MCHFT was funded £25.2m for a new Critical Care and Theatre rebuild but it was important that the project was completed on time, within budget and without any problems. The new facility aims to help the Trust with the expected rise in demand for Critical Care and Theatre services over the coming years, so it was crucial that the new flooring remained durable for the foreseeable future.
After utilising UZIN’s support to help rectify a long standing issue with a failing floor, MCHFT worked with UZIN and the flooring contractor iFloor Ltd to specify suitable systems for the new building as well as many other refurbishment projects. Each of which had their own requirements and challenges.
By working in partnership with UZIN the Trust was able to install over 15,000m² of flooring without any of the previous

problems it had experienced. The new flooring is very robust and helps withstand the heavy footfall and traffic load.
The facility has enabled MCHFT to further improve the quality and safety of patient care. The building has replaced the existing theatres, along with the intensive care and high dependency units, with state-of-the-art services.
Due to the success of the projects, MCHFT has continued to work with UZIN for the subfloor on all further flooring refurbishments. In recent years UZIN systems have been used to install new subfloors in the following refurbished areas: the Treatment Centre, Outpatients’ Entrance, Main Entrance numerous Wards, MRI unit and the former Sexual Health Clinic.
Paul Swindells, Senior Capital Project Manager, Estates & Facilities Division at MCHFT said: “The new flooring has helped breathe new life into the facilities which have been refurbished. The finish and look of the materials are first class and I can testify to their durability.”
