FROM THE RED CARPET TO SELLING CARPET
TRF Editor, Georgie Whitworth spoke to Hollywood hardman Vinnie Jones and his business partner Danny Deacon about their recent flooring venture, DeaconJones.
From the football field to Hollywood, former footballer-turned- film star Vinnie Jones is known to have many strings to his bow and it seems that his talent has no limits as he is now taking the flooring world by storm.
DeaconJones, a collaboration between Vinnie and his long- time friend, experienced flooring specialist Danny Deacon, provides fine flooring which is hand-picked and can be made bespoke to order. Since the company was formed 18 months ago, DeaconJones has been providing high-quality carpets to a wide range of independent retailers as well as high-profile clients and has partnered with established names within in the flooring industry including Crown Floors.
Vinnie and Danny’s friendship goes right back to Vinnie’s professional footballing days when Danny would attend matches with his dad, a good friend of Vinnie’s. The pair have
remained in touch ever since, brought closer through their shared love for golf. In fact, it was through this hobby that the foundations for the DeaconJones business were formed.
Speaking of the sport’s role in the business venture, Danny said: “Vinnie and I are both addicted to the game, and it was whilst sharing this passion that the idea was born, it was great timing for the both of us.”
Vinnie added: “We just got talking and Danny said he was looking for something to go into.
“I love remodelling houses; I’ve built about five houses. Danny is so knowledgeable about flooring. I just said to him ‘You’ve got a passion for it. You’ve got a great eye for it. Do you want to team up and go for it?’
“So we went for it and it’s really gaining momentum right now. We’re going towards the big leagues really. I feel like, in football terms, we’re in the Championship and we’re in the play-offs this season going up to the Premier League.
“We’re already a couple of years in front of where we thought we were going to be.”
Whilst Vinnie’s time in the spotlight has been well documented, his background in construction is less publicised. As his father had his own building company, Vinnie has had an interest in renovation from a young age and has been remodelling his own houses since the 1980s.
Danny has extensive experience and knowledge of the flooring industry as well as property refurbishment works. After becoming an approved contractor for the local council, Danny developed a flooring sector of the business and was immediately rewarded with multiple projects.
“The flooring element of a project is what I looked forward to the most; the smell of new carpet and the feeling of completion was a newfound passion. This led to many years and valuable experience in the flooring sector, including both retail and fitting,” Danny explained.
Combining Danny’s knowledge and passion for fine flooring with Vinnie’s strong showmanship and interest in refurbishment, Deacon Jones is a mixture of expertise and high quality products with an added touch of Hollywood glamour.
Speaking of the pair’s roles within the business, Vinnie said: “I get the glamour side of it. I can mentor Danny and there’s nothing he doesn’t know about flooring so it works very well.
“I’ve got a good business head on me and I like the industry.”
Whilst Vinnie and Danny are the face of the brand, the company has a tight-knit team working behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the production, as Danny
