FEATURE AGAINST THE CLOCK
Fast-track flooring solutions from F. Ball have helped deliver a major refurbishment at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, allowing contractors to complete the project within a strict deadline.
F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s Stopgap 1200 high-performance smoothing compound and Styccobond adhesives have been used to prepare subfloors and install floorcoverings extensively at Worcestershire County Cricket Club as part of significant investments in modernising and upgrading facilities.
Cheltenham Flooring Services, who were contracted to undertake the work, had a strict two-week window in which to complete the project while the team were training away.
They began by removing old carpet and vinyl floorcoverings in the main changing rooms, umpires’ rooms and players’ and officials’ areas. This also required lockers and other fixtures and fittings to be moved.
Stopgap 1200 was then applied throughout the areas. It is formulated so that it can be applied over minimal old adhesive residues, eliminating the need for mechanical removal and saving time in these situations. Low-odour, self-smoothing and fast-drying, Stopgap 1200 is walk-on hard from 60 minutes and dry enough to receive floorcoverings in as little as four hours when applied at a thickness of 2-5mm.
Once the subfloor was fully prepared, Stockade carpet was installed in the changing rooms and main areas using F. Ball’s Styccobond F3 adhesive for textile floorcoverings. The water- based rubber/resin flooring adhesive offers excellent wet grab and benefits from an early build-up of strength.
Flooring contractors then used F. Ball’s Styccobond F44 pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive to install Polyflor Polysafe safety flooring in the changing rooms. Styccobond F44 is a solvent-free, acrylic emulsion adhesive, which provides high bond strength, strong initial tack and a long open time. It is protected against bio-degradation and suitable for securing a wide-range of vinyl sheet and tile floorcoverings, rubber floorcoverings and some PVC or polyurethane-backed textile floorcoverings.
Also as part of this phase of works, F. Ball’s Styccobond F73 PLUS was selected to install artificial grass on the balcony of the ladies’ pavilion. The fibre-reinforced adhesive is designed to be a user-friendly, one-part, moisture-curing alternative to traditional polyurethane and epoxy adhesives for internal and external heavy-duty applications. It offers high initial grab and, once cured, is highly resistant to surface water, making it ideal for outdoor areas subject to heavy foot traffic. Furthermore, its fast-setting properties allow the welding of sheet floorcoverings to take place from as little as two hours.
