CONTENTS

Welcome Greetings, engineers across

the globe! Here is the latest issue of International Mining Engineer, which I hope will be an informative and entertaining read. For our lead story, we explore

the world of drone technology and how it has helped improve efficiency and safety in mines deep underground (pages 6-9). Here, I spoke to a product manager at Swiss company Flyability which develops mapping and inspection indoor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for complex and confined spaces, with mining being one of many industries it has built a rapport with. Following this issue’s cover

story, one hauler manufacturer looks at the five most important considerations when investing in a truck (pages 10-11), we celebrate a two-boom face rig that has set a new drilling record at a gold mine in China (page 14), and a trio of filtration experts compare mechanical and thermal cake drying (page 16-17). In our Materials Handling

section, a senior applications engineer presents an engineered approach to passive dust containment (page 30-31), how best to reduce belt replacements following rip and impact incidents (page 34-36), and look at new research that uses the technique of electrochemistry to extract precious metals from discarded electronics (page 44). And as usual, we wrap up our

issue with a show preview for Euro Mine Expo which will be held in Skellefteå, Sweden on 28-30 May (page 54).
