THE VALUE OF DATA

Digital portal empowers operators with data-driven insights for mine-to-mill optimisation

D

ata plays a pivotal role in the realm of modern mining, providing crucial insights into exploration, operations,

and environmental management. The strategic use of this data facilitates eff iciency improvement, cost reduction, enhanced safety risk management, and the promotion of sustainable mining practices. Vancouver-based MineSense Technologies Ltd has recently unveiled a digital platform, MineSense Data Portal, designed to optimise operations.

The MineSense Data Portal

harnesses real-time data from the company’s ShovelSense and BeltSense technologies, off ering data-driven insights for mine-to-mill optimisation. It serves as a robust digital platform providing access to critical data points in the ore processing value chain, according to the solutions provider. With interactive features for

visualisation and analysis, it provides actionable insights that personnel can leverage to optimise operations,

ShovelSense and BeltSense

ShovelSense employs high- speed X-ray fl uorescence (XRF) sensors on mining machinery to scan the mineral content of the bucket, assessing material grade during the shovel’s dig cycle. The data is instantly transmitted to Fleet Management System (FMS) software, directing haul trucks without operator intervention. The system’s data software uses machine learning algorithms and processes real- time data for grade and material classifi cation, including base metals and deleterious elements.

The collected data also enables high-resolution ore body mapping, enhancing mine operational visibility. BeltSense shares

core technology with ShovelSense, connecting ore body knowledge and machine-learning algorithms. It stands as the sole conveyance option integrating with at-the- face measurement. The system scans conveyor

mineral content, assessing material grade independently of belt-speed. Integrated with ShovelSense, real-time data

spanning extraction at the mine face to downstream processing in the fl otation circuit. An early adopter, Copper Mountain

Mine in British Columbia, Canada, has experienced the benefi ts of the MineSense Data Portal, using both ShovelSense and BeltSense applications across the site. Rudolph Botha, senior geologist at Copper Mountain, says the portal has unmatched capabilities in tracking grades and accurately monitoring material. Jeff More, president and CEO of

MineSense, highlights the portal’s capacity to maximise the value of real- time data generated by its ShovelSense and BeltSense technologies, providing enhanced visibility for end-to-end operational processes. Key features of the MineSense Data

Portal include real-time tracking of grades from digger buckets, trucks and conveyor belts, summary of trucks redirected by ShovelSense, system availability monitoring and spare parts inventory, three-dimensional visualisations for mine planning insights, an ore tracking dashboard for mill process optimisation, and a customised layout tailored to each unique mine.
