EMAIL: R.M. Young Company acquires SNOdar, expanding
meteorological instrumentation portfolio R.M. Young Company has announced the acquisition of SensorLogic, the creator of SNOdar, an advanced snow depth sensor. This strategic acquisition enhances R.M. Young Company’s product offerings, providing innovative solutions for snow and ice removal, solar panel maintenance, ski area management, and snow science applications.
The SNOdar is renowned for its accurate and robust monitoring of snow depth and new snowfall, even during winter storm events. It is one of the only snow depth sensors
that utilises LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology to provide accurate snow depth measurements. This high-precision method allows the SNOdar to create detailed, real-time snow depth data, ensuring reliable and effi cient snow monitoring for a variety of applications. The SNOdar is the only snow depth sensor that calculates an estimated snow water equivalent (SWE) value.
The SNOdar sensor can be set up to operate as a distance sensor, storm-board snowfall sensor, or a seasonal snow depth sensor. A powerful mobile app allows the user to quickly confi gure and deploy the unit as well as monitor real-time data when within Bluetooth range.
The SNOdar features real-time data transmission via serial RS-232 or SDI-12 interfaces, compatibility with various telemetry systems, and an internal data logger capable of storing an entire season’s data. Its compact, lightweight design ensures durability in harsh winter conditions, operating effi ciently at temperatures as low as -40°C. With low power consumption averaging less than 0.5 watts, the SNOdar is ideal for remote deployments using minimal power sources. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Bozeman, Montana, SensorLogic specialises in developing radar-based remote sensing solutions that transform physical activity into actionable data. With almost two decades of expertise, the company offers sensors tailored for resource management and infrastructure utilisation, serving industries such as industrial, environmental, medical, and consumer sectors. SensorLogic’s commitment to innovation and quality has attracted a diverse clientele, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to emerging startups.

With the recent launch of their portable test kit and the Company’s overall commitment to innovation, reliability, and speed when it comes to water quality analysis, I am excited to contribute to their expansion. I look forward to working closely with David, Emily, and the rest of FREDsense’s experienced team to help PFAS-related technology developers and environmental consultants expand their monitoring and treatment programs and accelerate PFAS mitigation efforts everywhere.”
Since launching the industry’s fastest PFAS lab analysis services in spring 2024, the Company has seen rapid growth across multiple applications and had adoption by some of the biggest names in the PFAS industry. For example, Ovivo, Aclarity, Axine Water Technologies, CoreWater Technologies, NBOT Labs, and NULIFE Greentech, have all turned to FREDsense for faster PFAS sample testing and results to speed their technology development. Additionally, FREDsense launched the industry’s fi rst fi eld analyser for PFAS in January of this year after demonstrating at an international airport the ability to monitor aqueous fi lm forming foam (AFFF) transition projects in real time without the need for slow, off- site analysis. The Company has also further developed applications allowing for in-fi eld screening in site investigation and remedial programs and is working with numerous confi dential customers in both lab and fi eld categories.
“We’ve proven market traction for both of our rapid PFAS testing offerings in the past year and have our sights set on continued growth within the environmental and water treatment space. I look forward to supporting Eric by strengthening our operations and ensuring that our solutions continue to meet the highest standards for our clients,” explained FREDsense now COO, Emily Hicks.
