8 Gas Detection Alphasense joins the AMETEK family

Alphasense, the Essex-based gas sensor manufacturer, is delighted to announce its acquisition by AMETEK, the global leader in electronic instruments and electromechanical devices.

Founded in 1996 and celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Alphasense will continue to operate from the company’s head offi ce and manufacturing facility in Braintree, Essex.

Alphasense’s product range and day-to-day operations will remain unchanged, with Erik Boergesen from AMETEK MOCON joining the company in the coming weeks to oversee the transition period alongside Alphasense Interim CEO Peter Saxton.

“This is a signifi cant moment in the history of Alphasense,” said Peter Saxton. “AMETEK’s operational style and growth strategy will create new opportunities for us over the coming years to build customer relationships around the world and develop our product range across existing and new markets. On behalf of the Gotley family, I extend my sincere thanks to colleagues past and present for their contribution to Alphasense.”

AMETEK consists of two operating groups: Electronic Instruments and Electromechanical. The company employs people at numerous manufacturing, sales and service locations in the United States and in many other countries around the world.

Despite the new interest and opportunities generated by the acquisition, Erik Boergesen believes Alphasense’s existing strengths will still be the key to achieving future growth.

“With the business recently turning 25 years old, we’re at a pivotal point where investment, insight and expertise from a company with AMETEK’s pedigree can help us push forward to reach new heights,” said Erik Boergesen. “Having said that, we still remain fully focused on delivering excellent product performance and outstanding customer service in our pursuit of this future growth.”

monoxide (CO) gases is now simpler and more effective than ever with MSA Safety’s leading- edge TruCal®

S5000 Gas Detectors. In the past, detecting H2

For More Info, email: email:

Technology, which is designed into its newest Ultima® 55735pr@reply-direct.com S & CO toxic gas detectors require

no calibration checks for up to 24 months Protecting workers from the potentially lethal effects of hydrogen sulphide (H2

S) and carbon X5000 and General Monitors S and CO with fi xed electrochemical gas sensors has

been challenging. A gas sensor’s electrolyte or one or more of the electrodes usually limits the life of the sensor, especially in high temperature or humid environments. These conditions and issues often required frequent recalibration or clearing of blocked sensors in these rugged environments commonly found in oil/gas production and petrochemical refi ning plants. MSA’s breakthrough TruCal technology for its XCell®

H2 S and CO sensors solves these problems with an extended

calibration technology, which automatically self-checks and corrects sensor drift to extend calibration cycles up to 24 months using Adaptive Environmental Compensation (AEC) algorithms. This capability eliminates bump checks and assures the user that the sensor is healthy, measuring accurately and capable of detecting gas continuously. The Ultima X5000 and GM S5000 Gas Detectors with TruCal Technology deliver reliable H2

S and CO protection to achieve worry-free safety without sacrifi ce. This is accomplished by combining an internal electronic interrogation of their XCell gas sensor’s functionality (pulse check) with an acoustic system (diffusion supervision), which monitors the gas inlet path for blockages that would prevent gas from reaching the sensor.

The result is a comprehensive sensor self-check capability for the Ultima X5000 and GM S5000 Detectors that interprets the results of these two tests and confi rms the sensor is able to accurately respond to H2

S or CO or makes adjustment to the sensor sensitivity

if necessary. Furthermore, these sensors are able to identify and communicate to the user and plant control system if the sensor inlet has become obstructed, is nearing the end of its life, or is in need of calibration. TruCal’s self-check is automatically performed every 6 hours without any user intervention. TruCal eliminates the need for regularly scheduled calibrations. Sensors will perform within stated performance specifi cation for 24 months without manual calibration.

The Ultima X5000 and S5000 Gas Detectors also feature dual sensor design capability, which doubles the sensing power with half of the footprint of a single gas transmitter. Their built-in SafeSwap™ capability also enables the safe and quick replacement of XCell sensors without turning off the instrument for reduced maintenance time. The intelligent design of the X5000 and S5000 detector’s local interface makes it simple to install, use and maintain. The detector’s display shows instrument status (power, fault or alarm), Bluetooth connection status and gas readings at a glance. A unique touch button interface provides rapid access to all settings and functions.

X/S Connect App. Workers will appreciate the safety of wirelessly accessing the detectors up to 75 feet (23 meters) away using the smartphone or tablet of their choice.

The X5000 and S5000 detectors offer a number of alarm signalling output choices. In addition to dual 4-20 mA current source or sink, HART, Modbus and optional Bluetooth® Android®

digital communications are available. The Bluetooth® interface connects with MSA’s Apple®

The X5000 and S5000 detectors address a wide range of application needs. They feature global safety approvals and are ideal for oil/gas production including offshore platforms; fl oating production, storage and offl oading (FPSO) vessels; and marine tanker service; as well as in petrochemical refi neries, large tank storage systems and distribution facilities. In addition, they support a wide range of other heavy-duty industrial process and manufacturing plants wherever toxic or combustible gases are found.

First-of-their-kind portable area gas monitors keep workers safe

For More Info, email: email:

Blackline Safety’s new G7 EXO portable area gas monitors are built for extremes, operating reliably in real-time in the harshest of conditions to keep workers safe. Easily tailored to suit specifi c gas detection and safety monitoring needs, the fi rst- of-their-kind cloud-connected monitors allow companies to accurately visualize what’s happening around their facilities and rapidly alert teams in the event of a hazard or emergency.

Unlike other products that rely on Wifi or mesh networks, the breakthrough devices use built-in cellular or optional satellite connectivity, deploy in minutes and automatically link to the Blackline Live safety monitoring web application to start streaming worksite data immediately to the cloud.

There is no need to collect devices from the fi eld to access important information. Instead, companies gain real-time visibility and live monitoring capabilities, enabling in-the- moment, proactive response to mitigate incidents.

The compact FireSting-PRO is a unique one-device solution for multiple analytes and sensor heads. It is a PC-controlled (USB) fi bre-optic multi-analyte meter, which can be combined with the complete sensor portfolio for optical O2

pH, and temperature sensors from PyroScience.

Each of the 4 optical channels is freely confi gurable for several analytes and sensor types. These range from microsensors (50 µm tip) to robust probes (3 mm tip) and include diverse smart contactless sensor solutions (for measurements in closed systems / respirometry, microfl uidics and complex geometries), as well as sensors for different ranges (full and trace range O2

, pH ranges). A precision

Pt100 temperature sensor can be connected to the temperature port, enabling automatic zero noise and zero latency temperature compensation of the optical sensor measurements in samples with varying temperatures, even during high speed measurements.

The FireSting-PRO features improved ambient light suppression for applications at in situ light conditions, as well as smart measurement modes for a prolonged sensor lifetime. Several FireSting-PRO devices can be simply operated with a single PC in a single Pyro Workbench window, offering scalable fi bre-optic multi-parameter sensor systems with e.g. 8, 16, 32, or 64 channels. It has never been easier to measure important parameters in a single sample at high precision with maximum fl exibility concerning analyte, sensor format, measuring mode, and application range. These devices are also available as 1-channel and 2-channel version.
