Waste Management & Handling New Separators for Non-Ferrous and Ferrous Metal Recovery


Eriez (UK) launch the RevX-ETM Eddy Current Separator which is the first Eddy Current Separator from Eriez to have an eccentric magnetic rotor to allow a single point of separation, which is different than the usual concentric design. The RevX-ETM is ideally suited for purifying cullet and plastics, and recovered valuable metal from secondary metals and incineration ash, especially the separation of small particles.


The P-RexTM, a new Permanent Rare Earth XtremeTM Drum Magnet will also be


shown which will bring new benefits to scrap processors. The P-RexTM’s powerful permanent magnetic circuit is up to 40% stronger than Electromagnetic Drums and is capable of moving large spherical objects at twice the distance. This new development will give processors the opportunity to separate fragments of electric motors and alternators


also containing copper, aluminium and steel that is presently missed.


Along with the RevX-E and P-Rex, there will be the launch of the ProSort II Airless Metal Recovery System. The ProSort II which will be present at IFAT includes all the advanced features of the original ProSort, but with twice as many sensors per paddle. The new inverted paddle design means better detection of both larger and smaller metallic’s during processing of shredded automobiles, co-mingled recyclables, electronic scrap and glass cullet as well as many other resource recovery operations.


Also putting in an appearance at the shows will be self cleaning version of the Model CP Suspended Permanent Magnet. Overband


Permanent Suspended Magnets are used to protect valuable crushing and screening equipment against tramp metal damage or simply for removing iron from demolition rubble. The Eriez CP Magnet is robust, requires minimal maintenance, is very simple to install and operate and is very versatile. Along with the CP Magnet, Eriez also offer a TP Suspended Permanent Magnet which are more specialised for the removal of long, thin, sharp metals such as nails, ideal for recycled wood applications.


Along with Magnetic Separators and Metal Sorting equipment, Eriez Europe also design and manufacture Metal Detectors to detect ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Installing an Eriez Metal Detector on a conveyor belt system will protect downstream machinery from damage caused by tramp iron on the conveyor. They are easy to install and operate and typically consist of a control unit, search coil and connecting cable. Each coil is custom designed to optimise the sensitivity of the Metal Detector to meet the individual customer needs. At the shows Eriez will have an operational Metalarm 3000 Metal Detector. It will be mounted on a conveyor belt and will demonstrate what the Eriez Metal Detectors are capable of.

MeWa Recycling Maschinen und Anlagenbau (Germany) offers a high-performance solution for the pre-shredding of domestic and commercial waste. The AlphaCutter series is a slow-running single-shaft shredder for difficult materials with high throughput quantities. In three different rotor sizes ranging from 2,200 to 3,700 millimetres in length, the new development can prepare up to 50 tonnes per hour.


New Release of Carbon Management Software


Greenstone Carbon Management (UK) has announced the release of version 2.4 of its Acco2unt carbon management software which has been enhanced to meet the changing needs of managing carbon accurately and cost efficiently across the supply chain.


Greenstone’s Acco2unt 2.4 has evolved in three key areas. First, the software incorporates supply chain and product carbon footprinting capability in response to pressure from leading FMCG brands on their suppliers to provide information on environmental performance indicators, including the reporting of carbon emissions. Second, offset and allowance management has been included in the 2.4 release, allowing clients to record voluntary carbon credits purchased across their organisation and the number of CRC allowances purchased throughout the CRC reporting year, together with the ability to track progress against actual performance. The addition of a carbon balance sheet means that clients can now also report their credits and allowances in financial terms. The third enhancement includes improved analysis and reporting dashboards, allowing more comprehensive and granular analysis of carbon emissions, consumption and cost data across the client’s organisation.

The cutters counter-rotate at differing speeds, intermeshing one with another. The exclusive split-body frame design allows easy access to the cutters. This feature allows fast removal of the complete cutter assembly as a whole from the top of the unit.

AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals has Completed its REACH Registrations


AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals (The Netherlands), producer of among others chlor-alkali products and derivatives like monochloroacetic acid (MCA), metal salts and dimethylether, has completed all REACH registrations well in advance of the 30 November 2010 deadline. This guarantees the continued supply of all products to our customers.


AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals started working on meeting its obligations under REACH four years ago. The first milestone was reached in 2008 by submitting pre-registrations to the European CHemicals Agency (ECHA). At the same time, the technical REACH dossiers were initiated. Now the registrations have been finalised with the submission of all dossiers to ECHA and the assignment by ECHA of the official registration numbers.


The completion of the registrations is the impressive result of a joint effort of AkzoNobel Industrial Chemicals and the REACH consortia in which it participates. Customers will be kept informed on the up-to-date information of Industrial Chemicals’ products via extended Safety Data Sheets (e-SDS).

Thanks to the manner of pre- shredding, it was possible to increase the throughput in the granulator by more than 30 per cent,’ says Ulrich Hink, describing the performance of the new development.
