AnalytiChem Holding GmbH has announced the acquisition of the Seignory Chemical Products Ltd, known globally as SCP SCIENCE, a federally incorporated Canadian company with headquarters in Baie D’Urfé (Montréal), Quebec, Canada and European offi ces in Courtaboeuf (Paris), France and Marktoberdorf, Germany.
The company was founded in 1980 by George Feilders and is a market leading manufacturer of sample preparation instruments including microwave and graphite block digestion systems, environmental chemistry analyzers, certifi ed reference materials, matrix standards, specialized chemistry reagents, and graphite, plastic, glass and quartz consumables for the atomic spectroscopy market. SCP SCIENCE is also the owner of the globally recognized Conostan line of oil-based standards. In addition to having an ISO 9001 certifi cation covering all locations, the company is also accredited to ISO 17025 and ISO 17034 for the production of certifi ed reference materials at its Canadian manufacturing facility.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk to lead speaker list at Downstream USA 2022 conference and exhibition in Houston

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk has been confi rmed as a speaker at the Downstream USA 2022 conference and exhibition in Houston, Texas. Turk will lead one of the strongest downstream speaker lists ever at the event, on June 8 and 9.
Alongside Turk will be Bob Maughon, executive vice president and chief sustainability offi cer at SABIC; Shelley Porter, executive director of sustainability and circular solutions at Eastman Chemical Company; and Chemours chief sustainability offi cer Sheryl Telford.
Elsewhere, the Reuters Events conference will feature Christopher Guith, senior vice president of policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Energy Institute, and Dipankar Das, group vice president and head of digital for commercial and value chain operations at Marathon Petroleum.
Rounding off the stellar cast of speakers will be Venki Chandrashekar, vice president for research and technology at Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Suresh Padmanabhan, senior vice president, chief technology offi cer and global manufacturing head for PET at Indorama Ventures.

COVID-19 boosts adoption of virtual reality in the oil and gas industry The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a shift to remote working, which has boosted the
adoption of virtual reality (VR) by oil and gas companies for training, collaboration, and data visualization, says GlobalData. The data and analytics company notes that this shift will persist even though most employees have now returned to offi ces.
Ravindra Puranik, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “VR technology is becoming commonplace in the oil and gas industry as it helps to visualize 3D simulations of real-world objects. As the industry deals with volatile substances that are often found in dangerous environments, there is a substantial concern for worker safety.”
Taking a cue from the gaming industry, VR is gaining traction in the training of oil and gas personnel. Large oil and gas companies—such as Saudi Aramco, Equinor, and Shell—are using VR to simulate the physical environment in training rooms.
Puranik explains: “Trainee personnel are given VR headsets that deliver an immersive experience of a facility, be it an offshore production platform, a gas processing plant, or a
refi nery. Although this lacks the real feel of a challenging workplace environment, it is a highly safe and cost-effi cient approach to introduce personnel to a new facility.”
VR enables oil and gas companies to train workers on fi eld equipment in a simulated environment to build their situational awareness. It can help develop safety procedures at production facilities to address smaller accidents, as well as for emergency responses.
