I have a solid academic background. But before coming to Middlesex, I had almost no work experience and practical skills.

I also really wanted to experience the artistic scene in London, which is more open to contemporary art than in Paris (in my opinion). Only a few master’s degrees focused on the managerial skills that I was looking for.

Valentine says that the tutors encouraged students to “work like professionals”. This meant getting involved in live projects like organising a fashion show for a vintage store in Camden Town; highlighting the issues around fast fashion.

I am 100% sure that my master’s degree was the right decision because it gave me what I came for: practical skills, business skills, management skills and marketing skills.

I feel like it has helped me with my career and life plans because it gave me the knowledge I needed to step away a little bit from the research path I took before and enter the arts industry through a different door.

I feel a lot more confident now to go for interviews, apply to jobs in the event industry or as a curator, director assistant, or in a managerial position.
