For 900 years fishermen have been catching Atlantic salmon on the River Tweed, which flows almost 100 miles from the Southern Uplands through the glorious Scottish Borders to the North Sea at Berwick-upon-Tweed.


Due to overfishing and high demand, many Acts and laws were passed to protect Scottish salmon stocks in the 18th and 19th centuries, which led to the only permitted method of fishing being by net and coble (a small boat).


EXCLUSIVELY AT FORMANS The Tweed is now the only Scottish river left where wild salmon can be netted, with regulation reducing the number of commercial fisheries to precisely one. We’re proud to say that we have a long-standing and exclusive relationship with that fishery which means it’s almost impossible to buy wild Tweed salmon anywhere else.


NO TWO FISH TASTE THE SAME


While high quality farmed salmon is superb to eat, wild salmon is the real McCoy, each fish a unique product of its environment. Factors such as the specific section of the Tweed where it has been caught, diet and the conditions of the water all play a role in shaping its unique flavour.


DON’T MISS OUT In the summer, when wild Tweed salmon are caught, we offer whole fresh fish on a first come, first served basis. We also now offer chilled portions — from fish frozen within 48 hours of being netted — throughout the year but stocks are strictly limited. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
