New rollerbed option for Vervaet harvesters
new primary cleaning rollerbed is being offered by J Riley Beet Harvest- ers as an option in place of Ver- vaet’s turbine system. “Although not intended as a replacement for the turbine-on- ly confi guration, the Vervaet roll- erbed is intended to offer another option for potential customers al- ready operating a rollerbed-type machine in suitable soil types and conditions. “We were being asked by peo- ple running competitor’s ma- chines when Vervaet will make a rollerbed, so they’ve produced it to fulfi l that obligation,” says Jeremy Riley, managing director of J Riley Beet Harvesters. “However it isn’t a replace-

Lifting is still carried out by
ment for the turbine confi gura- tion, because modern turbines will ultimately provide the most cleaning and we still believe that
Vervaet’s industry leading rotat- ing walking shares, which are said to excel in the toughest of condi- tions. Row width is hydraulical- ly adjustable from 45cm to 50cm
in the usual way. The shares are arranged in a straight line so that they present the lifted beet evenly to the roll- erbed which is used in place of the two front turbines and consists of seven full-width 100mm diame- ter rollers. To maximise cleaning, the
fi rst two spiral rollers take the beet outwards before all subse- quent rollers gather the crop to the centre for transport towards the rear of the machine. This confi guration can be al-
tered by changing rollers. Short- er rollers either side of the throat form a backstop, bringing beet to the centre. Roller speed can be var- ied from the cab to cater for differ- ing soil types.
The rollerbed discharges the beet on to a central cleaning tur- bine, continuing the positive cleaning action. This is a well proven method already in use on over 160 Vervaet turbine-on- ly harvesters in the UK. The rollerbed is currently suit- able for the fl agship six-wheel Ver- vaet Beet Eater 625, but it is antic- ipated that it will also be available for the popular four-wheel Q-Se- ries in the near future.
Even with a rollerbed in place
of its fi rst two turbines, the 625 still retains six turbines due to its unique layout – more than any other machine on the mar- ket making – for industry lead- ing cleaning capacity.
