Join ‘PROOF’ – an update from Companies House
One of the main issues facing our Members is crime, whether it be the physical theft of goods from their premises or increasingly these days some form of internet/cyber crime, which due to its nature can be more difficult to detect. Companies House has a free
Aviation security after EU Exit
All involved parties knew that change was coming to the aviation sector due to EU Exit. Whilst air cargo has encountered only limited changes in the Customs remit, there has been a significant change in the approach to aviation security. From 1 January 2021, air cargo that is trucked to, or
via, the EU for onward flight to destination has become subject to additional processes and, in some cases, additional charges. The EU ruled that such cargo would not be
recognised as secure even if it had come from a Known Consignor or had been screened by a Regulated Agent or airline. This decision meant that cargo may be screened at the airline cargo hub on mainland Europe and, as such, could incur a charge for doing so. It is not necessarily in the best interests of the air
cargo industry to add processes and charges to the supply chain. The decision not to recognise it as secure cargo reflects a similar previous decision the UK made
on trucked transit cargo coming from Europe to fly out of the UK. It could be argued that the UK decision was based
on the vulnerability of the trucks carrying the cargo at a time the migrant issue was at its height. Bilateral engagement between the Department for
Transport (DfT) and the European Commission is now under way. EU Commission may be looking for reciprocity on the issue – in other words the EU accepts UK secure trucked cargo shipments on the basis that we accept theirs. This would mark a fundamental policy shift for the UK
which would have to be considered very carefully by government, assessing risk and vulnerability that may arise. BIFA continues to remain in contact with CAA UK
and CLECAT on an ongoing basis concerning this subject. We shall, of course, update our Membership on any signs of a shift in policy.
UKWA makes new appointments
BIFA has always enjoyed a close relationship with the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) and recognises that many BIFA Members offering warehousing services are also members of UKWA. Last month, at its AGM, UKWA
announced the appointment of Clare Bottle as CEO, replacing Peter Ward who is taking semi-retirement after six years at the helm. Clare joins UKWA from Coca-
Cola Europacific Partners, where she was associate director of Warehousing, responsible for managing 3PL contracts and running in-house warehousing

service called PROOF which lets you protect your company from unauthorised changes to your records. It prevents the filing of certain paper forms, including: • Changes to your registered office address,
• Changes to your officers (appointments, resignations or personal details),
• Changes to your company name by special resolution. It is important that your
company’s records are correct because they are sometimes used to check its legitimacy if you apply for a loan. Fraudsters are known to hijack a
company by changing the details of the company’s directors and registered office. This leaves the company vulnerable to further fraud. Companies House deals with
around 50 to 100 cases of corporate identity theft every month. If you suspect fraudulent activity against a company, you should report this to Companies House using the following link:

operations across the UK. Her career includes delivery of successful logistics projects as an interim manager for clients such as Kuehne+Nagel, M&S, Yodel, Bunzl and Lafarge Tarmac. In a further announcement,
UKWA appointed Neil Bowker, commercial director of Bowker Group, as its new management board Chair. BIFA extends congratulations to
Clare and Neil and wishes them all the best in their new roles.
