Canada’s Eric Lamaze Withdraws from Olympic Consideration

Brussels, Belgium – Former Olympic show jumping champion Eric Lamaze of Canada has withdrawn from consideration for the up- coming Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. Lamaze was one of

five athletes named to the Canadian Olympic short list for show jumping and is currently the highest-ranked Canadian in the world

I take very seriously, and I’ve de- cided that Tokyo is not the best venue for me,” said Lamaze, 53. “While my health is stable at the moment, there are several risk fac- tors that have to be taken into con- sideration.” Competing as an individual is

Nicole Walker Exonerated By Court Of Arbitration For Sport

Equestrian Canada (EC) has

been advised of the reasoned rulings by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the Arbitral Award con- cerning Nicole Walker, EC, and The Pan American Sports Organization. EC is firmly committed to

clean sport and recognizes the breach in the Panam Sports Anti- Doping Rules during the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. It also believes in fully supporting its athletes through the execution of those rules with fairness and techni- cal precision. The CAS Panel accepted that

Walker innocently drank a cup of coca tea, believing it to be green tea. EC is further pleased that CAS found that the Canadian Show Jumping Team was not warned

prohibited substance contained in the tea “was the result, and only the result of, the unintentional ingestion of cocaine… as a result of her using a teabag containing cocaine which she took from the breakfast service area of the Los Incas Lima Hotel.” However, despite the Panel’s

about the prevalence of coca-based products in Peru and that neither the Canadian Show Jumping Team nor Walker had any knowledge that coca meant cocaine. Specifically, CAS found that the ingestion of the

recognition of Walker’s integrity and commitment to clean sport, her affected results at Lima 2019 were not reinstated, resulting in the Cana- dian Show Jumping Team remain- ing disqualified from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Equestrian Canada and Walker

will now explore the option of ap- pealing the CAS decision to the Swiss Federal Tribunal in Lausanne, Switzerland. Courtesy of Equestrian Canada
