If you wish to bring any

BIFA to launch ‘Industry Inspiration’ programme

To promote careers in logistics, forwarding and the supply chain, BIFA will partner with education charity EmployabilityUK to launch an ‘Industry Inspiration’ programme. Initially this will be with four schools – in Felixstowe, Essex, Manchester and London Heathrow. The programme will consist of a two-part workshop

comprising: 1) Employability and life skills sessions, 2) Promotion of the different pathways, with a spotlight on apprenticeships and career opportunities in the logistics, supply chain and freight forwarding sector. In workshop two, we will be reaching out to BIFA

Members to get involved and this part will be easily transferable to many schools around the country if it becomes a success. This ‘Industry Inspiration’ programme will meet

aspects of the Gatsby Benchmarks, highlight routes when making career choices, identify the core values and behaviours required when applying for jobs, and provide advice that may encourage young people to

broaden their horizons. Carl Hobbis, executive director at BIFA, said: “We

need to do more as an industry to promote it as a career option to young people by raising their awareness of the different apprenticeships within the transport and logistics sector. “Many of our Members are doing some fantastic

things already but we, as a trade association, need to do more. This programme is just the start and provides a framework to support Members and their activity as it is easily transferable around the country. “What we are looking for is Members to support it

with patronage, which will only cost time and a commitment to talk to a local school and hopefully create employment opportunities for young people. “So, we encourage Members to engage with a local

school within their community, to find out about their careers activity and to get involved. In return, BIFA will support with resource to run the event.”

The UK Government amended national legislation in March allowing traders that are not established in the UK to apply for a duty deferment account and delay paying most customs or tax charges when they import goods

that are not UK-established are not eligible to apply for a guarantee waiver and will need to provide a financial guarantee from a financial

institution that is established in the UK, and set up a direct debit. Further information can be found
