Moviefilm) and Best Original Song (“Speak Now”) respectively. While Paul Raci (Sound of Metal) is enjoying a late-in-life accolade at age 72.
COULD WIN: Cohen was a standout as real-life political activist
Abbie Hoffman. SHOULD WIN: I would love to see the odd choice of pitting two
co-stars against each other be rectified with a tie win between Kaluuya and Stanfield.
THE DIRECT APPROACH

COULD WIN: While I really enjoy Fincher’s body of work, including
his year’s crop of Best Director nods is history-making, yet they also illustrate the lapse in judgment of the Academy in only recognizing five female directors in its 93-year history,
his early work helming Madonna’s Express Yourself and George Michael’s Freedom! ’90 videos, and the details that make Mank’s timeframe feel as though it could have been shot in the 1930s and 1940s, I don’t think it’s his year. SHOULD WIN: And why is that? Well, the Golden Globes often
serve as a precursor for who may win at the Oscars and Zhao received that achievement of being the second only Best Director woman and female person of color to do so. But you know what I’d like to see. Hold on, I’m going to tell you. Hang on, my phone’s ringing. Oh damn, now someone’s at my door! Geez, gotta take the dogs for a walk. OK, where were we? Oh yes, I’d like to see a tie win between Zhao and Fennell. Talk about herstory being made!
