INSPECTION AND TESTING OF EQUIPMENT TRAINING

Testing your knowledge

SELECT continues to add resources to its digital classroom with the new revised In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment course

By Jenny Cryans Training Manager

S

ELECT is currently preparing to launch a revised online version of one of its most popular courses – In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment,

Including Portable Electrical Equipment. We’ve been busy updating and amending the course since the release of the 5th

Edition of the IET’s Code of

Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment earlier this year. When it’s ready, this one-day course – also known as course No 207 – will be available in our dedicated virtual classroom sessions via the GoToTraining platform. It follows hot on the heels of other new online modules, including The Electrotechnical Site Safety Awareness (TESSA) course and an e-learning session on asbestos awareness in partnership with Training First Safety Ltd.

The 207 course is recommended for electrical practitioners involved in the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, including mobile equipment. The aim is to provide an understanding of the obligations under the Electricity at Work Regulations, to

consider the guidance provided in the IET Code of Practice on in-service inspection and testing, and the knowledge to competently carry out inspection, testing and the need for reporting and record-keeping of electrical equipment. The course will cover the following: ●Overview of the relevant IET Code of Practice ●Definitions and legal requirements ●Equipment scope and the need for maintenance ●Training and competence ●Equipment classifications ●User checks ●Formal visual inspection

●Test instruments ●Electrical tests ●Frequency of in-service inspection and testing ●Reporting and record-keeping ●New and third-party equipment. Costing £150 plus VAT per person for SELECT Members, dates for the new online course will be available from mid-April onwards.
