Thompson Mill Covered Bridge was built in 1868 to span the Kaskaskia River. This 157 foot bridge is one of only five covered bridges remaining in Illinois. Although, traffic is no longer allowed on the


bridge, you can still drive up & see how the bridge was built & admire the natural setting. 1718 E 300 N Rd., Cowden, 4 miles east of Cowden. Watch for signs of Rt. 128.

The Moweaqua Coal Mine Museum has displays and memorabilia from a bygone era in Mid- western prairie history. Most well-known for the Decem- ber 24, 1932 disaster that killed 54 workers, the coal mine itself closed in 1935. The Moweaqua Coal Mine Museum was dedicated on May 25, 1986. Goat Tower The Tower of Baa is the one and only goat tower in the U.S. It is modeled after a tower that Dave and Marcia Johnson saw in a wine magazine from S. Africa. The original goat tower was in Portugal. The John- son’s tower is 31 ft tall and have 5,000 bricks with 276 spi- ral steps that encompass the tower. Moweaqua Living Memorial Tree Park planted with native Illinois trees, prairie grasses and native wildflowers. Each year a new tree is planted in a person’s honor. Every tree has a plaque to commemorate that person and to list the scientific name of the tree. The park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 217-768-3036
